Councilman Julio Tavarez to Speak at the Dominican American National Roundtable Annual Conference

The Dominican American National Roundtable (DANR) is pleased to announce that The Honorable Julio Tavarez, 5th Ward Councilman for the City of Paterson, will speak at the DANR 11th Annual National Conference in Providence, RI, October 10-12, 2008.
Councilman Tavarez will address participants at the DANRYouth Initiative event during the DANR 11th Annual Conference’s welcoming reception at the City Hall of Providence on Friday, October 10th. He will also greet students and participants at the Next Generation Youth Leadership Workshop to take place on Saturday, October 12th from 10:00 AM to 11:45 AM at the site of the conference. In addition to addressing the youth, Councilman Tavarez will participate as a panelist in the workshop titled “Bridging the Digital Divide: Tools to Improve the Quality of Life Through Technology” to explain how he and his team relied on technology to win a council seat in Paterson, NJ.
“It is a great honor to have Councilmember Tavarez speak at our youth event titled Dominicanos Al Estilo Professional and at the Next Generation Youth Leadership Workshop,” said Amaris Guzman, Co-Chair of the DANR Youth Initiative. “Councilman Tavarez has been a strong advocate for the youth and on issues that are important to the Dominican community.”
Born and raised in Santiago, Dominican Republic, Councilman Tavarez migrated to the United States in 1989 and settled in the City of Paterson, New Jersey. Tavarez went on to attend Kean University through the Exceptional Educational Opportunities (EEO) Program. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration graduating with honors in 1999 and earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration 2 years later graduating with a 3.9 grade-point-average. He is the creator of PatersonOnline.NET – the city of Paterson’s only community website and Paterson Magazine. Currently, Councilman Tavarez is a Technology Teacher at Public School No. 15 in Paterson, NJ.
