Tavarez is ‘uniter’ for the 5th Ward

Letter to the Editor – Herald News
The article about the 5th Ward race published in the May 5 Herald News was troubling to me. It played up all the things that are tearing Paterson apart. By highlighting what divides us, the article ignores all that binds us — a common struggle, a common future. So much is at stake here in the 5th Ward. Our children lack enough recreation. Our schools are failing. Our families are struggling to make ends meet.
It is important that we have leadership that looks past our differences and instead finds ways to unite and motivate our community so we all can be a part of a better future in the 5th Ward.
As a third generation black American raised in Paterson, I am proud to support Julio Tavarez for 5th Ward councilman on May 13. Tavarez gives me hope that we can stop the destructive feuding and petty bickering and work together to improve the lives of all Patersonians.
Tavarez has the leadership we want and the change we need to head in a positive direction. We need someone with a vision that is positive and hopeful, not negative and divisive. We need leadership that will put politics aside and do what is right by all of us.
I have faith that Tavarez will effectively represent me, my family, and all of my community — every race, nationality, and ethnicity. I have faith that, with his efforts, we will finally work together to build a better 5th Ward for generations to come.
